Mo - suggestions please?

Postby Monika » Mon Sep 17, 2012 5:39 pm

I keep popping here to keep an eye on you all from time to time - and have a laugh with you too, but this is the first time I've posted for ages.

I wondered if mo had any suggestions for me regarding the water colour I've almost completed:

I need to paint the window panes at the back of the alcove and wonder if I paint them black will that bring them forward and take the focal point away from the pot and flowers - could I use another colour? I presume it would be Ok as there could well be closed curtains behind them, which could be of any colour.

I would appreciate some help here.

Very nice painting Monika. Sorry I cant be of much help by suggesting a colour for the window. I suppose on here the obvious suggestion would be......put up some nets!!

Could you put something outside the window? Faint hills or something with a bit of pale sky line. As I said I am not much help sorry.

Thanks Steve and deja for your compliments. To give you a better idea - this is the picture I painted from and used the concept rather than the actual photo (the painted concrete being far too difficult for this amateur).

I so want to get this right as the art group have an exhibition in November and I would really like to do something presentable. The alcove is in shadow at the back, but if I paint it black it's going to bring it forward - that's the problem I think. Before I do - I'm going to put a few more leaves on the plant to reduce the background more.

Thanks again xx

That's a really lovely painting Monika :clapper: and you should be proud of it. I'm not even a starter in art so can't offer any helpful advice though, but I wish you luck at the exhibition.

Maybe if you photographed the painting and saved it to Paintshop, then you could colour in the black and see what it would look like in reality ?

Looking at the photie it appears that the windows are more grey than black. Perhaps a light shade of grey.

I agree with what others have said, except for Deja of course. :butt:

I don't think you should use black, would be a bit severe and overtake the painting, which is lovely by the way. It has a delicate look about it. Try Mazzy's suggestion, usings a few different colours and see what you think is best.

I was wondering where you were.......

Hi, Monsy .............. I think you're right about the black and I think Steve's suggestion of a grey will probably be the right one, so I plan to start with a palish wash and gradually darken it until it looks OK.

Thanks everyone who has made suggestions and given so much encouragement. :grouphug:
