My hobby is watercolour painting. Here is one which I made as a design for last year's Christmas Cards. I chose local scenes and people seem to like them. This is the Hope and Anchor Pub which is at Midford, a small village on the south side of Bath. The archway above is part of the viaduct which used to carry the Somerset & Dorset railway line, and which has now been turned into a walk which is accessible to disabled people. It is also used as a cycle track.

This is the other design I did on coloured paper using pen and gouache. It is of Thomas Hardy's cottage in Dorset.

I wish I could draw. You are very talented DL. I still wonder why my teacher entered me for O level art, I failed of course.

They are lovely D Lady, I cannot draw either. I do parchment cards, emboss and paint them when I have time. But I love watercolours.

Thanks folks! I think I am rather better at pen and wash (which these are in) rather than straightforward watercolours. Having recently had a shellfish platter at a meal, I now have some oyster shells which I brought back and hope to do a still life from.

It may appear on this topic at some time - on the other hand it may just get binned! That's the way it goes sometimes I'm afraid.

I am not in the least bit clever at drawing anything.

I have had a horrible smell in my kitchen today - like rotten fish. I have just realised what it is! A couple of weeks ago we had a Seafood Platter and I brought the shells back so that I can do a still life. Aw shucks!

I will go and look out some more Pics - I have them downloaded onto a CD ROM. Back soon!

Here are two more - pure watercolours this time.

The first one is of Castle Combe in Wiltshire.

The second is one I was commissioned to do for someone's birthday. It is Bathsheba Bay. I got this far and took it into work for the person who commissioned it to see. It was still taped to the board as I was not sure whether it needed more work. He whipped it off me, board and all and took it to the framers. It now hangs in their dining foom.

Here are two more which I did after our trip to the Lake District. I fell in love with Church Beck in Coniston and did two different paintings of it. One in watercolour and the other in watercolour and gouache on coloured paper.

Two more Christmas Card designs. The first is of Manor Farm Southstoke (the village where I grew up. It has a very old tithe barn but you can only see the rounded corner of it on the right hand side of this picture. The second is a view from Colerne in Wiltshire.

(I am having trouble getting these the right size - they are either too big or come out rather too small!)

Here is a rather chocolate (dare I say that word on here??) boxy picture of some lovely old cottages in Castle Combe. They had lovely old fashioned flowers growing in their garden. Again a pure watercolour.

The second is a line and wash done on site at Hinton Priory in Wiltshire. The local art group took a trip out there. It is owned by a very old lady and the whole place (which is huge) is looked after wholly by a groundsman and his wife. She also looks after the house and the elderly lady. The priory is no longer open to the public though it appears to have been at an earlier time. The path leading up to the door on the side of the priory is lined with lavendar and as it was a warm sunny day it smelt wonderful!
