8 oz S R Flour
4 oz Soft Butter
4 oz Sugar
1 Egg + little milk

Mix Flour, Butter, Sugar till fine bread crumbs
Add egg + milk to soft constituency, should not be solid as this
will make them too hard.
Shape into 2 rounds
place on baking sheet lined with non stick paper
Cut each scone into 4, indent centres with finger and
put in a little jam, sprinkle tops of scones with sugar
Bake at 5 for about 20 mins or until firm and golden.,

Sounds very like something my grandma used to make - they were delicious but I don't remember her name for them.

You could well be right Rowan, I have never had a recipe for them as Mum showed me how to make them when I was still at school, have made them ever since, my kids and Grankids all like them.
