My daughter suffers from it VM, it's dreadfully painful, hers is made bearable by using special insoles, but nothing she's tried has cured it

Thanks Deja - Got to admit those first few steps in the morning are excruciatingly painful.

I have an appointment in the morning with the Practice Sister fingers crossed for some helpful advice and, maybe, medication.

A friend has suffered with it for some years, special exercises help but he still has pain.

Just spoken to my daughter, she had her feet measured at Cotswolds and they made them to fit, which has helped, they cost around £20. Also I bought her some jelly like heel pads, which she says are almost as good and were much cheaper.

She also does excercises every day which the specialist gave her, which is gradually improving it, one thing which she says really helps when the pain's at it's worst, is rolling a plastic bottle full of frozen water, as this takes down the swelling.

The only other option she's been given is steroid injections under her foot, which she will only do as a last resort

Thanks again. I have Googled a range of exercises that might help but that frozen bottle one looks good to me must give it a try.

I saw the Practice Sister at our local medical centre this morning. She gave me a prescription for pain killers (co-codomol) I couldn’t have anymore anti-inflammatory pills because I am maxed out with my Blood Pressure medication.

However I had a lot of useful advice although she told me everyone is different. Incidentally she also suffers intermittently from this condition.

One thing she did strongly recommend was to rest the foot on a bag of frozen peas before performing exercises and then on a warm pad or hot water bottle after exercising. As far as exercising was concerned the advice was to use different rotational and stretch exercises and discover which ones work best for me.

Heel inserts were recommended apparently because my foot arch is still high it is only the heel which needs cushioning. I’m yet to seek advice on what type to try.

That’s my experience to date.
