kidney disease?

Postby mazzy » Sat Aug 12, 2006 4:24 pm

I have recently been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease - stage 3. Anyone know anything about this. It came to light after an unrelated blood test. I have more tests coming up - more bloods and a kidney ultra-sound. My blood pressure is up too - from being low it is now what most people would consider normal. My GP says we will wait for the next lot of results then see what happens next. Not sure if I should be worried or if this is just part of the aging process! Any comments gratefully received. Wonder if the headaches, dizziness and fatigue are relevant?

Mazzy, I found this on a site, though maybe you should question your doctor rather than look on the internet. I do hope that it is not too serious though. Keep us informed.

How do you know about chronic renal failure (CKD)?

As many people with chronic renal failure have no symptoms, it is often only diagnosed after blood tests. As your kidney function deteriorates, you might develop any of the following symptoms: poor appetite, nausea and vomiting, tiredness, fluid retention (swollen ankles or shortness of breath), itch, cramps, or restless legs. However there can be other explanations for most of these symptoms.

Am terribly sorry to hear this Mazzy, I hope it's not as bad as it sounds. The dizziness and headaches could easily be the blood pressure. Fingers crossed for you.

No Barbara - in fact we laughed when I turned 60. My husband said that I would be able to get all of my prescriptions free!! Brilliant idea, but I didn't have any. Also I am loth to take over the counter medicines, so don't think it's that, but thanks for that info.

yers...I am very positive most of the time - it's just a glitch, and nothing to worry about.

Then there are those small hours in the morning when everything seems bleak.....

Anyway had an empty arm yesterday after loads of blood taken and will hope for a good result.

Look on the bright side mazzy. Stage three is only moderate decrease in kidney function. A situation I've been in for ages. I had one removed many years ago and I'm still going strong. Well, I've had four heart attacks, but I'm a long way from the scrapheap! The medical profession, in spite of what one reads about the NHS, can work near miracles these days.
