Migraines

Any suggestions on how to cope with migraines?
I have tried prophylactic drugs but not only did they not prevent the headaches they made me feel very ill.
I take Feverfew and Dong Quai herbal tablets which have helped a bit.
I take Imigran as soon as a migraine starts but I'm still getting on average 2-3 a week!

Please don't ask what triggers them :tantrum2: the only thing that is likely to be a cause is Hormones  I've done several food-exclusion diets!

:dunno:

Know this is not going to be much good, but I suffered when I was younger,
I said my cure was menopause, kids leaving home and divorce, :sunglasses:

Have you had a blood pressure test Daff ?

If you have and its OK then get back to the doctor and ask him/her if there is anything else you can try. Such as Rizatriptan.
These are very thin wafers that dissolve in the tongue. I always have some in now
because I had such a terrible migraine some time ago I was rushed into hospital and put on a drip because I was dehydrating.

Funnily enough once my blood pressure was kept on an even keel the migraines eased off.

I also keep an icepack ready in the fridge in case I need to put it across the eye and down the side of my face if one starts.
I hope you get it sorted out because a migraine can be very debilitating.

Well Widget
I've no kids, been going through the menopause for what seems forever and as for divorce... think I'll make him suffer a bit more

Maisie my blood pressure is the only thing that is anywhere near normal on me, bit on the low side if anything. The Imigran I take is a type of Triptan and they do work but after taking 3 or more in as many days I'm like a zombie (no comment please)

Seriously Daff, I think the Menopause has a lot to answer for,
Can your doctor not refer you to a clinic which deals with Migraine?

have you 'trawled' through site like this??
http://www.migrainetrust.org/
http://www.medinfo.co.uk/conditions/migraine.html

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Thanks Widget and Rowan, was hoping for a cheaper cure than a divorce

I've searched on several sites but the only conclusion is there is no conclusion, lots of ifs and maybes.

Aw well there are many worse things...

I rarely eat chocolate, prefer biscuits. Cheese is a special treat because I've an intolerance to dairy produce, so if I indulge I always make sure I've nothing planned for 2 days and it doesn't give me a headache

Try accupressure. My hairdresser suffers badly with migraine and I got her a book on this subject. There is a piece of skin and flesh between the thumb and first finger, hold this with the other thumb and finger and press together for a count of 30. repeat on the other hand. Do this whenever you have a few minutes to sit quietly. She swears by it and sits doing it when I am under the dryer. There is another pressure point on the face somewhere, when I get a minute I will look it up for you. Do try. cheers Penny.

One of my neighbours suffers terribly and even ends up in hospital, sometime.

The Migraine Society has a cap that can be filled with ice and many people are responding well to it.

You could check with the society?
