What sort of oil?

Postby Emm » Fri Jun 24, 2005 2:11 pm

I have recently been diagnosed with angina.
I have been told to eat oily fish - mackeral, tuna etc.

I can also have white fish - and was wondering what I should fry it in. I am sure I heard something about Olive Oil - but am not certain.
Does anyone know?

I think olive oil is good.

I think the best one to use is the extra virgin olive oil. I have angina and I am currently taking a 'statin' drug to lower cholesterol but would prefer not to take the drug and have been looking at ways to reduce cholesterol through diet. I rarely eat meat nowadays, preferring either fish or vegetarian meals. I think I am right in saying that the tuna needs to be fresh rather than tinned.

Try fish this way. Place the fish on to a suitable sized piece of cooking foil together with a bay leaf and seasoning, a little lemon juice and just enough olive oil to stop the fish sticking to the foil. Make up into a parcel loosely so that the fish steams in its own juices. Place in pre-heated oven (180 degrees centigrade) for 20 to 35 minutes according to size. Undo parcel eat and enjoy.

I sometime add raw asparagus to salads, I think the young tips taste even better raw.

Thanks VM, I shall try that.

I hadn't thought about grilling, Daisy!!
!
Pam - my doctor gave me a diet sheet.
I am on tablets for high colestral, too - I had been having cheese and ice cream every day - not together, I hasten to add!!!
Apparently, all white meat is fine to eat.

Many thanks, everyone.
