DEMYELINATION

My youngest grand-daughter started with a problem with her left leg last Friday and it was so bad she went to Casualty at Jimmy's for it checking out, at first they thought she might have a blood clot, however blood tests ruled that out, so she was sent home with the advice to go see her GP if it didn't improve .

By Monday she could barely walk on it so she went to see her doctor yesterday afternoon, he spent an hour checking her over and was horrified that she hadn't been admitted for further tests as he suspected it was neurological, her rang the specialist and arraged for her to see him today at 2pm.

He thinks it is something called demyelination, which is a break down of the sheaths on the nerve endings in the brain, after looking it up it seems that Multiple Sclerosis is one of the better results of this condition, so you can imagine how devastated we are, she will be 18 next month and should be having the time of her life, instead she's on tenterhooks waiting for the result of the tests they did today, which hopefully will be back in 2 weeks, although she was told that should she experience similar problems with her other leg, or with her arms, she has to contact them immediately.

So if anybody has had experience of this condition then please let me know and please spare a prayer for Laura, she really needs all the help she can get at the moment

She certainly does need help, deja. What a terrible thing to happen to anyone let alone a young girl of her age. My thoughts and prayers are with her.

Positive thoughts winging to her now. My colleague has MS and whereas its not been terribly severe so far, her life has been affected by it. So young to have such a devastating illness, let's hope its not as severe as it can be.

Not wishing to give false hope here, but my friend's daughter had something very similar. After lots of worry and tests it turned out to be a viral problem, and she was back to full health in about 3 months.

I just hope this is the case, but will keep you all in my prayers.

What a great worry and such a young girl. I do hope it turns out to be just something transient, perhaps she injured her knee, way back and it's a badly trapped nerve. That is not uncommon. Very best wishes to her and to the whole family

At last Laura has got a date for her MRI scan, it's this Saturday at 12 noon, so hopefully we'll get a firm diagnosis soon after, it's the waiting and not knowing that's hell, although I have a good feeling about the outcome for some reason, no logic to that, but optomism beats pessimision any day ........... watch this space

Laura had her MRI scan today, she found it most daunting as she has claustrophobia, so she closed her eyes and thought of England, she said her legs had gone to jelly when she tried to stand up, bless her.

We just have to wait for the results now, so fingers crossed :please:

Only just seen this Deja. My hugs and prayers for your granddaughter. I do hope that it turns out to be nothing more than a trapped nerve or something similar.
