Some Summer Holiday Pics

Postby Andere Richtingen » Mon Aug 05, 2013 3:11 pm

At last I've got around to putting up a handful of the best photos I took during our recent trip to the Netherlands and Belgium. Sadly, it all feels like a very long time ago now even though it's only 3 weeks!

I'm not the world's greatest lover of churches and church architecture but the interior of St Jan's Cathedral in 'S-Hertogenbosch is very cool and spacious, tranquil and soothing. It reminded me just a little of Lincoln which has a similar effect on me:

This was a peaceful oasis in the busy town of Goes (pronounced Herss) - looks like we've discovered where the Loch Ness Monster takes his holidays!

We enjoyed a cruise on Gravelingenmeer on a glorious day. I promise, there's been no Photoshopping here; everything really was this blue:

This was the engine that pulled the vintage tram over the Brouwersdam - a splendid ride for lovers of views and/or steam traction!

We visited the brilliant annual sand sculpture exhibition at Blankenberg which is a display of astonishing imagination and talent. Every piece on display is made entirely of sand and it's hard to pick out the best representative samples but I'll try. Here is Neil Armstrong:

and some movie magic from the Terminator and Castle Frankenstein ....

And lastly, I wish we had a service like this one in Wenduine, Belgium! Ready-made soup delivered to your door. The driver comes slowly down the street, ringing the bell on the van roof and customers go out with their jugs and bowls to buy the soup of their choice from the two or three available.

Thanks! Really enjoyed those. Think I've done my last round the world trip so have to live it via others. :-)
