You go for a lake cruise on the Lakeland Queen, enjoy a great lunch and listen to a very knowledgeable commentary if you wish.

Don't be tempted to jump into the Arsenic pool!

In AD186, when nobody lived here, not even Maoris, Lake Taupo erupted covering the North Island in debris. The eruption dwarfed Krakatoa and Vesuvius and was noted in China and the world's weather changed for many months. This graphic compares:

Me, neither but it's certainly left some spectacular after-effects. I thought at first glance the green pool must be covered in algae; I had no idea that arsenic is green!

Beautiful photos Ciderman, a couple of miles from where we live is an arsenic pool it was discovered just after some cooling towers were demolished some years ago.
