September....

September....

Postby Josieclick » Sun Sep 10, 2006 12:46 pm

When I was a young man courting the girls
I played me a waiting game.
If a maid refused me with tossing curls
I'd let the old earth take a couple of twirls
And Id ply her with tears instead of pearls
And as time came around, she came my way
As time came around, she came

But its a long, long while from May to December
And the days grow short when you reach September.
The autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
And I havent got the time for the waiting game.

Oh, the days dwindle down to precious few;
September, November.
And these few precious days Ill spend with you.
These precious days I'll spend with you.

September Song

born 19.6.32 - deported 24.9.42

Undesirable you may have been, untouchable
you were not. Not forgotten
or passed over at the proper time.

As estimated, you died. Things marched,
sufficient, to that end.
Just so much Zyklon and leather, patented
terror, so many routine cries.

(I have made
an elegy for myself it
is true)

September fattens on vines. Roses
flake from the wall. The smoke
of harmless fires drifts to my eyes.

This is plenty. This is more than enough.

My September song dedicated to my hubby.

Its been a long long while since we got wed on the 17th of September 1949
When we became man and wife and I claimed what was yours is now mine.
Its nearly fifty seven years ago on that day since we first tied the marriage knot
Gawd we both need a bloody medal for sticking together when others lost the plot.
We would never get the Dunmow Flitch that was a sure cert right from the start.
But we stuck together through thick and thin and miss each other when apart.
We have had our ups and downs over the years and words said that could hurt.
That’s when a silence reigned and the conversation could be short and curt.
Two extremely different personalities, you a bit calmer and me with a short fuse.
But we are still together 57 years later and as fit just like a pair of worn out old shoes.

I am moving this to the poetry section so that it will not get lost amongst the Anything Goes section.

I forgot to attribute "September Song." Sorry folks. It is by Geoffrey Hill and it the most moving poem I have come across about "The Final Solution."

I thought it was very moving Megra. Although I could never say I was a poetry lover, some just get to you.
Avoid the evil, and it will avoid thee.
