Canny Wild Life

Walking though the woods one day,
I happened upon a squirrel’s drey.
‘Twas high in the tree up by the trunk,
When they heard me they did a bunk.

Down by the river was a badger’s sett,
Went down to see if a picture I could get.
I had no such luck, it was midday,
Badger had tucked himself well away.

So off I went down by the chicken pen,
Hoping the old fox would leave his den.
I waited, to catch a picture, to no avail,
Not even a small glimpse of a foxes tail.

Down to the barn where an owl nest I knew,
Sat hiding hoping to get me a picture or two.
I was there all night, but they didn’t show,
I’ll try another day, home to my nest I must go.

The wildlife are very canny, but you see,
They’re very good at hiding, and avoiding me.
The day they show when the camera I forget,
Happens to us all so I shouldn’t get upset.
