The Little Healer

This poem is about a kitten that gave my great nephew the will to fight back after a massive stroke at the age of 24.

He was not responding to much until this little bundle of mischief came into his life.
He was living with his girlfriend at the time and she turned out to be one of the best. Sarah his girlfriend adored Lee ( my great nephew ) and she was determined to get him back on the road to recovery.
They finally got married in June of this year after five years of love and determination between them.

Here is the poem.

THE LITTLE HEALER.

When my mum and dad first saw me they were completely smitten
And I felt very honoured to be chosen even though I was just a kitten,
They named me Basil and I was to help my dad and keep him company
As he was recovering from an illness, I will keep him amused you see.

I make sure that I keep my dad moving as he pulls a toy on a string
He is using his limbs as he pulls it along and I get all ready to spring.
I managed to climb the Christmas tree to play with all the pretty bows
And getting tangled in the ribbons and pulling, to see just how far it goes.

They have tropical fish that fascinate me with two frogs and a snail
I’ve heard them call the frogs Stan and Ollie so they must both be male.
I keep my dad on the go and I will do my best to help make him fit
With me around making him exercise he doesn’t have time to sit.

When we have both had enough play I settle down on my dads knee
We both get pleasure when he strokes me, it helps him too you see.
It is surprising how dumb animals can make you human beings smile
It makes the animal feel that they have helped you for a little while.

People have noticed a big change for the better since dad first had me
And I feel very proud to have been chosen to be a part of his therapy.

Not to worry Dita.
I very often miss something and spot it about three weeks later.
