Back from the dentist, fortunately, good report. Nothing required to be done.
Pity about the carpet, don't really know what to say. We have just cleaned ours an they are super. One thing did cross my mind, try spraying the spot with perfume for a couple of days, see if that gets rid of the odour of dried milk. Like your OH hubby has his time out with the boys but for a lunch only. With the tablets he takes, can't accept alcohol any more. Funny how they do things they want, if I suggest I want to go somewhere or do something away from here, he won't let it rest until I say, don't worry, I won't go. grrrrrrrr Hope poor Dita is not getting too much mess, I can imagine the chaos but atleast it will look lovely when done. Hope puss is behaving, kisses on the way. Take care all, cheers Penny

Hi, all - what a lovely, bright morning it is here. Not a cloud in the sky .... freezing cold but such a lovely change from the grey we've been having. I'm sitting here wrapped in a big woollen stole because I've hurled all the windows open in hopes of blowing away The Pong with a draught right through the house. Lucy K loves it because one of her favourite places in the world is the outside windowsills of the front bedroom which catch all the sunshine. She occasionally hops across to next door and scares them silly by peering in their windows, too!

I've had another scrub at my smelly carpet yesterday evening, with some biological washing powder and strong floral disinfectant then sprayed it with some lavender & cedarwood wardrobe spray. I thought there was an improvement last night but it seems as bad as ever this morning. I''ve tried spraying all sorts of fabric sprays on it plus that Trainer-Tamer stuff you use on smelly shoes and some Bach Flower Remedy room spray. About the only thing I haven't tried is my Orlâne Eau de Toilette and I do draw the line at that!

OH eventually wandered back from his booz - sorry, coffee morning about 5pm!! Seemed quite astonishingly sober so maybe he was telling the truth when he said he was doing more talking than drinking. He's supposed to be going off to Grays today so I said I'd go with him just for the trip as it's such a nice day and while he's busy, I'll go to the garden centre and get some plants for my empty doorstep pots and indulge in a slab of gateau in their superb café.

Glad the dentist was ok and hope the mad drillers of Humberside are under control and all dogs and cats are content.

Have you tried baking soda? Bob Martin make a very good pet stain removal spray which claims to neutralise smells.

Good idea about the B.Soda. Forgot that one. Hope everyone is o.k. and doggie gets her walkies, in spite of the builders. Lots of hugs on the way and kisses for pussies who should enjoy the sunshine today. Been very busy, cleaning up after carpet cleaning. Just have a Sainsbury Steak pie for lunch and have managed to pop a couple of loaves in. OH busy of course (cleaning car) such hard work. ha ha. Shot off for an hour to buy something for camera. Take care all and enjoy the beginning of spring. cheers Penny

:grouphug: Hi Penny, Andere, Monsy and all, have just been reading all that has been posted since my last post. Pleased all went well at the dentist yesterday Penny, doggie walkies was good this morning, big hugs welcome, also went into the garden for a game of football, little muddy paw marks all over because she dived in the house before I could catch her, the reason being, they are now putting the scaffold up at the front and she is delighted as it means she can exercise her vocals. It was peaceful all yesterday because they were working elsewhere in the village and I suppose they were waiting for the scaffolding. As Monsy said Andere baking soda may help, there is nothing worse than the smell of sour milk, I suppose L Katt will make it worse by lying on it :). My friend rang yesterday to say she was calling in today for a natter before she goes for her hospital appointment, her daughter was bringing her, they will now be probably sat waiting for her meeting with the specialist, she had a heart operation last Nov but had a stroke when coming round from the operation, the problem now is that her BP in her arms differ, one reads too low and the other arm is very high and they are rather puzzled about what is causing it. She had recently enjoyed a cruise on the 'Oriana' (sp) and brought me back a box of chocs which are made on board, her Grandaughter also works on the ship in the perfume selling department so plenty free samples too. I smell like a brothel and could maybe help your carpet problem Andere :rolleye11: Hope you have made that poor man a nice cuppa after working so hard cleaning the car Penny, keep your pecker up :) and take care all.

Ooh, I hadn't thought of that but I've used it successfully before now when there's been a nasty smell in the fridge and to absorb the smell of paint so that could well be the answer. I'll be off to the corner shop in the morning! (Funny, isn't it? I hardly ever do baking but last week I made a batch of scones and used the last of my baking soda). Anyhow, if that doesn't work, then it's off to the pet shop for the Bob Martins stuff. It does seem much less intense now after having most of the windows open most of the day :)

Picked up an old newspaper with tips, one that caught my eye. Sprinkle Bi Carb on to a smelly carpet, leave 15mins and then vacuum.
Morning Dita and all, hope everyone is well, hugs for doggie, should get lovely walkies today and kisses for pussies, should be able to roll in sunshine today. Just off for weekly shop and hopefully, lunch with son. Hope work is going well Dita and not too much mess. Catch you all later. cheers Penny

Morning Penny and all, had a few black clouds after rain overnight but sunny now, had cheerful walkies for doggie and warm hugs from you Penny. The house is enclosed by scaffolding now, not much work going on though, it is a much bigger job than we previously expected and the village resembles a bomb site - without the bombs of course. Hope you enjoy lunch and chatter with your son, may you also buy plenty bargains during your shop. Keep chin up :) and take care all.

You will probably have to use all the bicarb, and apply it thickly. Leave for a wee while. Scrape it up, don't use the hoover as it is very fine and might damage the engine. You can hoover the dregs of it though.

Tesco sell that Bob Martin pet stuff. We used when training the wee dug. Found it to be very good.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I think we're getting there. This morning, we gave the room another good airing with wide-open windows once the rain stopped. Now I've put a saucer full of baking soda on a shelf near the afflicted bit of the carpet and will see if that works to absorb the smell the same way it does if something goes off in the fridge. It did seem much improved first thing this morning - or maybe I'm just getting acclimatised to it. If necessary, I'll try brushing soda thickly into the pile and leaving for a while before vacuuming. That should be OK with the Dyson and the extending hose as it has a very fine filter. More news as it happens, as they say!

I'm feeling cheerful anyway because this morning I planted three tubs full of polyanthus on the porch and they look really lovely - a tub of yellows and oranges, one of shades of pink and another of red, purple and blue. My neighbour said they'll look beautiful until the wretched squirrels dig them up. Unfortunately, he's probably right. I grew up in a little village and we rarely saw a perishing squirrel yet, here in a heaving suburb with about 250,000 residents, they're everywhere and a right bliddy pest. Anything the slugs and snails don't fancy, the squirrels get. :tantrum2:

Lucy K doesn't care either way. She used to chase the squirrels but has lost her enthusiasm when she realised she was never going to catch one so she's been sleeping in a chair all day.

Good morning Penny, Andere and all, bright and sunny rather chilly, walkies in a few minutes but thought a few big hugs from doggie was on the cards first. Did anyone see the Northern Lights last night? no luck for us but some of you may have been lucky. Not much planned for today, seems it is the same for the guys outside doing the walls think they are still finishing off elsewhere in the village or sneaked off to their little hut down the road for a fag and a cuppa. We get very few squirrels here, did get one stuck in our eaves a couple of years ago, it was trying to get at our House martins nest we had to help it down, have a pic somewhere, lazy L Katt thought squirrels would be just up your street.Whatever you are doing Penny keep smiling :) and take care Andere and all.

Hi Dita and all, what a dreadful morning. Popped in earlier but got cut off. Lots of hugs on the for doggie, not sure about your weather but dreadful here, very wet, pouring at the moment and dark. Let us hope the last day of February takes all the bad weather with it. OH been on his computer doing photography all morning, now sitting playing with his Laptop/ As I could not get on here I decided to catch up so made my mustard for the fridge, will cover me for the next few months. Delicious and so easy. Don't know if pussies will venture out at all today, not very nice but kisses might help. I expect your workmen are delighted to have an unexpected break Dita. Got to find time to get to Cosco, running out of birdseed, with this weather they can't be bothered to search for their own food so keep coming and sitting outside my kitchen. Take care all and keep warm. cheers Penny

Hi, all - dreadful here, too. Dark, rainy, sleety and so-o-o-o-o-o-o cold with a horrible east wind that goes through you, not round you. LK is very happy to not go anywhere today. So am I, come to that. All those flowers that I planted yesterday look very sad and shivery today.

The good news is that the bi-carb is working!! SAM_87
I've just been in there for another sniff and there's barely a trace of the smell now - such a relief! Thanks again to all for your help.
Hope you all have a good weekend and keep warm, everyone.

Hi Penny and all. A Happy St Davids day to you too. Peace on doggie walkies today was shattered by the noise of youths racing around on their bikes stirring up the drying pathways where we walk. Lovely and sunny despite all that and hugs on their way to you Penny. Hope OH takes some good pics and enjoy your day whatever you do :) and take care all.
