Sadness

Postby dejavou » Sun Jan 09, 2011 7:43 pm

My daughters Jack Russell, Trixie had to be put to sleep today as she'd had a stroke, she'd had a good life, she was 18, but understandably the family are all very upset. And would you believe the vet charged £142 to do the necessary .... at least Dick Turpin wore a mask

This follows on from my 16 year old goldfish dying on Christmas Day, I still keep looking at where his tank was everytime I go in the kitchen, I know he was just a fish, but it was very entertaining watching him shoot to the front of the tank looking for food everytime somebody went into the kitchen :(

It cost me £88 to help Wolfie Fatboy under Rainbow Bridge.

I think they charged by the pound as he weighed at least six stone.........

Sad time indeed Deja.

When we had our last cat Baggins put down (she had meningitis) the vet at least had the decency of waiting a couple of months before sending in a fairly modest bill.

Arrrhhh I'm so very sorry, its a dreadful time and I do feel for you. They are always part of the family and hence they are missed just the same. We said never again after we lost our 16 year old little dog (a rescue we got at 9 months old which had been beaten) then a cat decided to give birth to 7 kittens in our woodpile over 3 years ago, through sheer hardwork we managed to rehome every single one travelling over 100miles to take the last 2 (and France is notorious for animal neglect) ... Mum liked it here so much she stayed. Thinking of you Deja.

It's such a sad time when you lose a much loved pet.

I am amazed at the price the vet charged - truly highway robbery.

I was rushing, but the link is an animal sanctuary which is in trouble re possible closing down,we have a dog from there who is delightful, maybe your daughter could think about rescuing another homeless creature, just a thought you understand as this is how we get over the loss of a beloved pet....

So very sorry to read of your loss. Deja. Thinking of you.
Yes we know exactly how you are feeling. When our little lucy had to be put to sleep, we were devastated. She had given us 14 years of so much love and happiness. We couldn't bring ourselves to have another animal. May be in the future we will think about it.

Thanks for the link Jann, but I don't think they will consider any more pets at the moment, their house is still like Noahs Ark, but mainly with more exotic creatures as my grandson works in a petshop and he tends to bring home the critters which don't sell.

Their remaining dog is a rescue as was Trixie and the 3 rabbits they had

Sorry to hear of your loss Dejavous! It is just awful when you lose animals. Eighteen years for a dog sounds a pretty long life though so you can be glad that Trixie had such a long and happy life.
