What colour is your crockery?

Postby DaisyB » Sun Jan 30, 2011 2:34 pm

I just cannot understand the fascination for blue and white crockery (or just blue). My mother in law (lovely lady) had the willow pattern dinner and tea services and I hated it. It was all thrown out when she died. I cannot eat off blue/blue and white plates and enjoy my food. A strange hang up to have I know. Dave's mum did eventually buy me a dinner plate in plain white for me to use when we dined there.

So would I enjoy a meal at your house or no?

I used to have blue and white many years ago. I visited Poole Pottery one year and changed everything. Now I have tea and dinner set in Poole Pottery, almost white. cheers Penny :grouphug:

I have the Johnson's Heritage set - the whole thing, in plain white. I even have the soup tureen and china ladle. Would be ok if I liked soup!

Mines a mixture now because at my ruddy age I dont intend buying any more pots of any description.
I have a full set that has a pattern on it BUT its not suitable for the microwave.
NO its not the willow pattern because it never held much fascination for me either June.

I have Mikasa, Imari Bouquet pattern. I bought a service for 12 years and years ago ... about 1975-1980. I think I bought that much with the idea that I'd likely break enough to end up with a service for 8.

Turns out I do use it regularly because I've given good china and crystal and all that stuff to my kids.

And no, only one cup broken in all those years.

Fortunately, I still like it.

I know Tony, but if the pattern on the plate is too busy or bright/dark coloured it puts me off eating

For everyday I use a mish-mash of crockery from the past, full of family memories. The posh set is very fine white porcelain, inherited from auntie, who had inherited it herself and never used.

When I married, we bought plates and cups from our local Woolworth, black and white retro design, as well as cutlery, kitchen stuff, ironing board ... Blow me down if most of it did not become collectors' items ?????!!!! I have ONE plate left

Our wedding present from a family friend was Ridgways Contessa dinner/tea service. It looks so dated now. We gave what survived breakages to a friend.
