Did you know

Postby Penny » Fri Feb 04, 2011 12:55 pm

Hubby was doing some comparing this morning and came up with this interesting fact.
2011

petrol. 1.30 litre. £5.72 gallon

beer. 3.30 pint £26.4 gallon

1938.

Petrol. 1 shilling a gallon

beer 14p a gallon

doesn't bear thinking about.

Was beer really 14p (ie 2 shillings and eightpence old money) per Gallon?

Gallon of course. Just re= checked his writing. He has corrected to just under 2p a pint x 8 to almost 14 p per gallon.. Will get him to be clearer when he awakes from his siesta. cheers Penny :grouphug:

After a little googling here are my findings.

Petrol 2s per gallon in 1938 = 10p decimal

Beer 8d per pint in 1938 = 3.5p x 8 = 26p per gallon decimal.

I hope my maths conversions are correct.

Inkjet - £4,234,657.07 per gallon.

Perhaps we should start to drink that?
