It seems ,yes, I did have one. Can;t say I used it much. Afraid CB meant nothing to my brain, anything technical and I lose it, asked hubby and he said yes, you had one when you used to drive the children to school, cheers Penny. :grouphug:

My husband, who was the Radio Officer at the local surf club, used to curse these !!! The surf clubs were setting up their radio network and because there were so many people using the CB radio bands some of the idiots intruded onto the surf bands which prevented them from calling for back ups or the helicopter during rescues.

I was well into CB......... I had a 'home base' set up with a 30 foot ally pole complete with guy ropes with the aerial at the top lashed to my chimney. Though illegal, with "boots" on, I could transmit over 18 miles. Initially I had a "Silver Rod" aerial and it looked like a gert-big chopstick, so that became my handle.....Chopstick ! I also had a CB in my car and again with boots, I could transmit over about 10 miles. They were fun times but eventually spoiled by "bucket-mouths" and "dead keyers" all intent on ruining your transmissions. Eventually one by one people dropped out and at about the same time, computers came on the scene and so began a new fad.

Would you believe that all happened nearly 30 years ago !! 8)

We had a home base, which we could remove, and use in the car.

My girls used to talk to my son on his way home from work.

I did some CQ, CQ, DXing when the conductions were right I had a full wave aerial which fitted on the roof of the car when not moving, and a quarter wave when moving, and of course a silver rod on the house roof, with a pair of boots.
