2. In an effort to "keep-the-party-clean" and not be accused of coarseness, I have copied the answer from a Google article............I found it quite interesting.

Etymologically, a pencil is a ‘little penis’. It originally denoted a ‘paintbrush’ – the current sense ‘writing implement filled with a graphite rod’ did not emerge until the 17th century – and came via Old French pincel from Vulgar Latin *pēnicellum, an alteration of Latin pēnicillum ‘paintbrush’. This was a diminutive form of pēniculus ‘brush’, which was in turn a diminutive of pēnis. Pēnis originally meant ‘tail’ (whence the metaphor of the ‘brush’), and only by extension was it used for ‘male sex organ’ (in which sense English adopted it as penis (17th c.)). The term penicillin (20th c.) was based on Latin pēnicillum, in allusion to the tuft-like shape of its spore-bearing structures.

6. There's no straight answer to this question....The following from Google.....

Several ships named Enterprise have appeared throughout the Star Trek series and movies. Below is a list of ships and their respective crew capacities:

NX-01 Enterprise - 85 crewmembers (83 human, 1 Denobulan, 1 Vulcan)
USS Enterprise NCC-1701 - Approximately 430
USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A - Unknown, likely identical to the previous ship
USS Enterprise NCC-1701-B - Unknown. Excelsior-class supported 750 full-time crew plus 150 visiting personnel.
USS Enterprise NCC-1701-C - Approximately 700
USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D - 1014 (this also includes children and possibly civilian spouses)
USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E - 800?

Query re Q.5. There appears to be only one Carl Lewis, a modern athlete who famously won many track events during the 80's and 90's. Also, research indicates there were no medals awarded to anyone during WW1: all major sports events were suspened in 1914 until 1920.

Hello Robbie,
If you read the Sunday quiz post and a couple of other recent quizzes, you will see that we confirmed there is no Googling. In the past the answering was by guesswork and the regulars would rather keep it so! I know you are an old hand but perhaps you had forgotten?

Thank you for pointing out the error of my ways Viv . To be honest, I wasn't aware of the Google bar because I hadn't read the "destructions"

However, in my defence, and knowing various Enterprises had been decommissioned and replaced by newer versions, it was logical there was more than one answer to the question. Therefore I referred to Google for confirmation of my opinion. Strictly speaking, I haven't answered the question but indicated there is no hard and fast figure.

Similarly, I did much the same with the pencil and Carl Lewis. The origins of the word pencil amused me and I thought it would do so to some of the other forum members and so I copied the words for all to read.

The only Carl Lewis I'd ever hear of was the one who excelled at many events in the 80's and 90's. Out of curiosity I looked in Google to learn more of the one in question and could find no mention at all....and to read at the same time there were no fixtures during WW1 and therefore no medals I wondered if the was a mistake in the question. Of course, I openly admit I could have missed the obvious but it doesn't hurt to ask........that way we all, learn Image
