Assembling goods

Postby mo » Sat Feb 12, 2011 6:44 pm

Why do we always have to assemble goods that we buy. Years ago goods were assembled before we took them home, now we have them flat packed in boxes with loads of screws and different sizes of wood etc to assemble. The instructions don't tell you much, only discriptions of how to assemble each piece written in all different languages.
Some folk are great at solving these what I would call puzzles, but for me, they are a headache.

Try looking in the local shop windows that have adverts or the supermarket you might find someone on there

Cost of transport is what makes the 'flat pack' inevitable. They've got to fit as many as possible in a shipping container and say, a table with legs is wasteful of space. Some of the instructions are a laugh though. Why don't they get someone whose native language is English to proof read them? When my wife had her shop , sometimes I would get the job of assmbling bikes and trikes for little kiddies. Being a bloke, I didn't look at the instructions for assembly until I had finished. I think that was a good move!
I never realised how much distria and derogate was in one small scooter!
