Timely Warning

Postby Monika » Thu Jun 01, 2017 5:07 pm

This is a letter in our paper, today, which I feel everyone should be made aware of .... please tell everyone you know.

"Within a week of cleaning the terrace of our rented holiday cottage with a stiff broom and a garden hose, my husband, Stephen, was dead.

Tests by the environmental health agency at North Norfolk District Council showed dangerous levels of legionella bacteria in the hose.

It had been used a month earlier, then left on the lawn filled with water that warmed up in the sunshine, the perfect environment for bacteria to multiply.

The sweeping of the broom caused an aerosol which my husband breathed in.

He was active and well, though with a heart condition, before he began having symptoms that appeared to be an upset stomach, hut rapidly developed into pneumonia. The intensive care unit at the Norfolk and Norwich University hospital did all it possibly could, but to no avail. We had no idea that a garden hose could be so lethal."

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOU KNOW.

I remembered this post last night and thought it might be a good idea to remind folk of this particular danger as we approach the times when we will be using hosepipes again.

As they used to say in Hill Street Precinct "Let's all be careful out there"!

That is a very important post Monika and should be digested and heeded by everyone, shower heads is known to carry Legionnaires but we never think of our outdoor products like hoses. Thanks so much Monika.
