Are You Deprived Enough to Make Pastry?

Postby laurie53 » Sat Aug 05, 2017 8:51 am

I was listening to a lady on the radio this morning who said that despite two full time wage earners in the family she could not afford to buy supermarket pastry and had to make her own from scratch.

She was very aggrieved and was giving this as an example of how her family was deprived because of high food prices.

All those years June was making delicious tarts and pies and pasties (and working full time) and we were deprived and didn't know it!

Rubbish. I would sooner make my own. What she implies is she likes a moan. Cheers Penny

As I've said before, she needs a bit of cold, wet and hungry on a semi-permanent basis to understand deprived!

I can't see how anyone can find it hard to buy food these days with such cheap shops as Aldi, Lidl and all the bargain shops that are being built. Some are almost give away prices.

Crap food is cheap but no good for you...turkey nuggets, fish fingers, etc. On the other hand a bowl of porrige is pennies along with some of the cheaper loaves for toast or a boiled egg... and no Mother has an excuse not to provide breakfast for the kids.

Flour and noodles aren't expensive for those that can be bothered to cook...it costs more for the gas.
The five a day are the expensive bit especially fruit, although occasionally bananas and some veg can be bought cheap.
