That's a Bit Worrying.

Just back from a routine (quarterly) visit to the doctor.

He tells me my kidneys are failing and he wants to see me again in one month instead of three.

So sorry to read that Laurie. Did the doctor tell you not to get alarmed?
Quite surprised he/she did not try to allay any fears or tell you what to look out for OR if you had any problems who to contact.

So sorry to hear this worrying news, is it both kidneys that are failing?A friend had one of her kidneys removed many years ago and has never had any more problems

It's reduced kidney function which is the problem, so it must be both.

He's trying to treat it by manipulating my other drug dosages at the moment.

It's all relative isn't it?

While getting my amended prescription filled I asked the pharmacist how her dad was as I hadn't seen him for w while.

His name is stll above the door, and he's a gentleman I have known many years and shared many a tarn with.

She told me his Parkinson's and Alzheimer's tend to keep him close to home.

Certainly puts a minor kidney malfunction into perspective.

in the couple of months before she died, my sister was diagnosed with reduced kidney function and told it was almost certainly due to the medicines she'd been prescribed for another condition. Funny how they don't tell you of these potential consequences when stuffing you full of this, that and the other complex formulae.
In her case, she was prescribed a very tedious dietary regime which permitted limited fruit and veg but almost all the carbs she could eat and which she found really hard to cope with, being almost-vegetarian. Sadly, she died of other causes before the failing kidneys could cause too many problems.
I do hope, in your case, Laurie, that this has been caught before too much damage is done and that tweaking your other pills and potions will arrest the decline. :bighugs:

Oh dear - sorry to hear this laurie - no wonder you're worried.
At least the doctor is keeping a close eye on you.

Oh, Laurie - I'm sorry. I absolutely had no intention to upset you.. I did take care to state that her death had nothing to do with her kidneys. It was caused by a pulmonary embolism following a long battle with an intractable bilateral leg infection. In fact, it was the mind bending quantities of different antibiotics she'd been prescribed over almost a year which triggered the kidney problems.
Forgive me, please? I did not mean to cause distress.

Minor Update

It's early days and I won't really know until the blood test, but I must say that since the reduced dose of my painkiller I am sleeping better and consequently feeling better,

Update

Not good news. I've been refused a repeat prescription without a further appointment. This includes my heart and blood pressure pills as well as my painkillers and anti reflux pills.

Earliest appointment, and just a telephone one at that, is next Friday (Friday 13th !) so I'm in for a worrying and uncomfortable week.
