Naff presents.

I've just been browsing a specialist website for ideas on a present to buy for someone who loves hiking. I need to get something for a friend's birthday.
Anyway I came across something called:

THE DEUCE OF SPADES

Apparently it's for burying ones own waste if you need to 'go' in a field or wherever!

I think I'll give that one a miss & buy her some hiking socks instead.

It got me thinking about naff presents and thought about my own over the years. I think the worst I ever received was a plastic bucket & washing up bowl for a wedding present from quite a close relative. They were rolling in money too - Perhaps they didn't like me very much!

What was your naffest present?

But surely such things were quite normal in those far off impecunious days?

An Addis set, a set of kitchen utensils, a pack o kitchen linen (dishcloths, tea towels, floor cloths), sheets, a blanket or two, towels, some saucepans.

One of the most practical of our gifts was probably the cheapest - a laundry bag, but stuffed full of household rags.

For all your modern silicone you can;t beat a man's vest or and old flannelette sheet!

We married in 1957 and my grandparents gave us tea-towels, pegs and dusters; to illustrate how very poor we were, they were much appreciated.
The most naff birthday present i can remember was a ceramic bowl containing pot fruit.

Nylon bedsheets! Every time we turned over in bed on a cold night, there was a crackling of blue sparks but on a night that was above freezing, we sweated! Ugh.
The second most naff thing was a tiny ceramic photo frame, adorned with odd representations of bits of fruit and piglets and with space for a picture about the size of a postage stamp  . I never did grasp the point of that!

We had 5 teapots as presents when hubby and I got married Carol way back in 1949 and we were still on rations which included tea. The ruddy teapots lasted us a lifetime.
