The earliest ones I knew of are in a village nearby where one house is blinged up like Blackpool since the first week of November. I'm told they do it for charity, every year - people apparently drive past and chuck money in a collecting box. All very commendable I suppose but utterly naff and vulgar. Fortunately for the neighbours, the lights do get turned off around 10:30 each night.
Personally, I don't do Christmas but most years have a tiny solstice tree or green wreath for the few days around the time of the solstice. Absolutely no dusty paper chains, musical Santa Clauses or flashing lights though!

They go up on the last Saturday before Christmas, though I still know plenty of people who follow the old tradition of the whole family decorating the tree on Christmas Eve.
