The earliest ones I knew of are in a village nearby where one house is blinged up like Blackpool since the first week of November. I'm told they do it for charity, every year - people apparently drive past and chuck money in a collecting box. All very commendable I suppose but utterly naff and vulgar. Fortunately for the neighbours, the lights do get turned off around 10:30 each night.
Personally, I don't do Christmas but most years have a tiny solstice tree or green wreath for the few days around the time of the solstice. Absolutely no dusty paper chains, musical Santa Clauses or flashing lights though!
