My First Solo!

I'm about to cook my first turkey without having somebody upstairs I can dash to for advice.

I've got the extra pennies together for a fresh bronze one: I"ve even got smoked bacon for the breast, so it could be expensive if I get it wrong!

wish me luck (Can't be that different from a pork chop can it?)!

Wow! Good luck with that, Laurie. Hope it's delicious.
(I only ever once cooked a turkey and was so worried about it being undercooked that I overdid it and the wretched thing fell to pieces when I tried to transfer it from the oven dish to the carving plate. Instead of nicely presented slices, we had turkey fragments for dinner!)

First mistake - not asking the butcher how much it weighed.

My eyesight is too bad read the label, and my kitchen scales couldn't cope.

I had to go into the front garden and ask the first passer by. This led to -

Mistake 2. Seeing her look apprehensive and take half a step back I should take realised that sub-teenage girls walking home alone from would have received dire warnings about old men trying to talk to her.

We live in a sad world.

I have a really powerful one prescribed by my optician, but it's gone beyond that, the receptors at the back of the eye are failing (macula degeneration).

What I really need is something that can read and speak.

Have you decided what you're going to make with the left overs?

Cold cuts, curries (various sauces), stir fry. mince'n'tatties. freeze some down, then put the carcase in the slow cooker with a casserole veg pack for five hours or so.

That ought to about cover it - it's only an eight pounder.

An eminent success!

Wonderful taste , bags of flavour and beautifully moist.

And a good dozen meals still to come!

Laurie, if I was a single woman, I'd ask you to marry me. Not only do you shave every day but you can cook, too! I'm glad it all worked out well.
