The final act, the turkey carcass is in the slow cooker, Long with a casserole pack of veg, a tin of soup, a handful of pearl barley and sundry herbs and spices lying around.

That should see me through most of the week!

Not long switched it off, Carol, so it's a bit late for a bowlful, but it smelled good and the seasoning check was promising.

Watch this space!

I think you can buy them already made and just drop them in.
Also they are simple to make plain flour, suet and little water and mix it but not to wet, roll in balls and drop in.

I 'm glad you enjoyed it Laurie.

As Twin Janet said -dumplings are so easy to make. just buy a packet of Atora & follow the instructions.
You can buy ready made ones but home made taste best. Honestly Laurie - they're dead easy.

Thank you both for the advice.

I'll look for ready made first but try making them if my fingers are up to it.

I can't make dumplings either they just stay small and wet, or yorkshire puddings, it means they're a treat when I do get to have them occasionally and I enjoy them more.

I don't "get" dumplings at all! Ever since I was first presented with them at the age of three, I've wondered why you'd want to spoil a good stew with floating lumps of stodge?
When we first got together, OH said one day that it'd be nice to have some dumplings in a beef stew. Fine, I said. Go ahead and make yourself some but include me out. He never did and has never mentioned them again.

Well obviously you add a few herbs of you choice for flavour, but a decent stew will impart its own flavour to the dumplings.

Incidentally, I used the word dumplings to accommodate those from furrin parts. We always call them "doughboys".
