Used to be a cricket umpire , couple of leagues and some First Class friendlies (Gloucester, Kent, MCC).

No problem in the West Midlands, packed with passionate West Indians but in gentle East Cornwall had to be escorted to my car by the two captains!

I have taken up drawing at a local place near me,its only 2 hours a week.But I enjoy it as it gets me out, meet up with other people,a couple of them are in my age group.I have brought a book that shows me how to draw some animals,so thats what I am going to do this afternoon.

Also I like the internet,reading,playing games on my xbox.Most of all being Logan's playmate.

Where to start?? Photography and photo editing; reading thrillers; vintage bus preservation; steam railway preservation; homeopathy and herbal medicine; making soup; drinking real ale (but never to excess!).

What about you, Widget? You didn't mention your own interests....

Hi all, just thought it was a good idea for a new topic,
my hobbies, bowling, swimming, jigsaws, line dancing, gardening club, historical club, knitting/crocheting, was never any good and drawing or painting, and also love my computer.

Genealogy, which can become absorbing to the point of addiction. A year ago, I sent off my DNA and have discovered no less than 22 NEW cousins who share my DNA. Sixteen in California, one in Vancouver, four in Winnipeg, and one in Worcester. The Californians are Irish Americans, the Canadians are Canadian-Irish and the last one is English-Irish. Emailing has been great! My husband had no interest whatever in his ancestry, nor has my daughter. But s-i-l and 9-year-old Charlie love the detection and discoveries. The Vancouver man is a professional genealogist.

I still have my singing, of course, Movers & Shakers each week, watch the Equestrian part of Olympics avidly, but not much other sport. The Internet, drawing & painting but wrists getting weak. Quiz nights, coffee mornings with like-minded people etc.

I would love to find some of my family, have a 2nd cousin who has done a most fantastic family tree, but of course, you cannot put on there living relatives.

Widget, there are special offers available quite regularly, to join the DNA road. Rather than pay a full £130 or whatever it is now - which I would not have dreamed of paying - the reductions can be down to £80 or £95.

If you google Ancestry.co.uk, a screen will come up telling you the info on this. When you apply, they send you a kit with a small test tube and cork; the return packaging/envelope and instructions. You spit into the test tube and cork it, follow the instructions and send it away. Mine went to the USA via Dublin, not sure why. It can take three weeks to get their notification which says you are now tested and listed on the 'matching cousins' pages and gives the link for the site. At present my listing has 134 names going from 1st cousins to 8th. I only comb through the names as far as fourth! If you think someone's name looks familiar, you can look up geographical data and names on that person's tree IF they have made one; and drop a message to them and hope they respond.

Trouble is, some people go into their shell and don't want to respond. Others use just their initials or a username like vannin or widget, but I entered my info as my valid name as also my discovered folks entered theirs. Good luck.

Thanks, did not think it would be that expensive, and surely you are only going to get 'matches' if that person has already given a DNA sample. Good idea though, will think about it and look at the info.

Yes Widget, the matches will only be people who have given a DNA sample. So I was fairly gobsmacked to get all these!

Mine are walking in the countryside, swimming, reading, scrabble, internet forums and socialising with friends & family.

Not able to do much now but, crosswords, knitting, sewing, ballroom dancing, acting.cooking. cheers Penny

I used to have many hobbies but my children came first, then, photography, calligraphy, did a writing course and managed to sell a couple of articles, knitting, sewing , workwise I was a secretary and trained beautician which I loved, unfortunately since the late 70's I have become a carer for my OH, we now live a day at a time and do not have time or energy for much else, luckily we did manage some travelling to interesting countries so we have some wonderful memories to look back on.

As you can guess from my username, lacemaking is a hobby of mine both needle and bobbin lace. Other hobbies are spinning, weaving, leatherwork, knitting, sewing, photography, reading, travel and just lately motoring trips into the country with a friend. I have been catching up on some unfinished lace projects today while watching a DVD about Ancient Egypt.

Knitting used to be one of my main hobbies and ballroom dancing plus reading and walking my dogs, which I no longer have because I cant walk far now. I cant grip the needles now either to do the knitting and it takes me all my time to lift my ruddy legs to get into bed.
I also like to delve back into my family history but found it a bit difficult because my grandmothers surname was Ne'un.
Having said that I am still keeping busy with many folk contacting me about my war years and playing Scrabble to keep my brain going.
Its a ruddy good job I can still use my middle finger on my right hand to type any letters or messages on my computer.
