Things people say that annoys me.

Things people say that annoys me.

Postby caroljoyce » Wed Apr 04, 2018 5:58 pm

My top pet hate is 'See you later' Used more by the young than the older person.
Even young shop assistants say it to me - 'See you later' she said to me at Sainsbury's the other day. How did she know she was going to see me later - I didn't know myself!

My grandson who only visits me once a year said it too.
I said to him 'Why, are you coming back' and he looked at me funny!!

Does anything like that annoy you?

If so - what?

People who pronounce aitch as haitch. (Especially the ones who think you aren't pronouncing the letter properly :dunno:  )
If at first you don't succeed, sky diving isn't for you!

People who say "goes" instead of "said". ("An' he goes to me, whaddya mean?")

People who don't know the different meanings of "affect" and "effect".

Those who say, "I, myself," as in I, myself, went to Brighton ..."

Advertising copywriters who describe mundane products as "stunning". I received a shoe catalogue this morning in which a pair of very ordinary sandals were so described.
Ye-e-e-es; if you whacked someone on the head with one of the blocked heels, they may well be stunned but, otherwise, no!

Anyone who describes anything as 'cool' when they mean simply that they like it or it's OK or they agree with you (wonder if my daughter ever reads this forum ...?)

My complete list could get very long but that'll do for now! (Grumpy old woman? Me?)

People who will say 'kids' instead of children, or youngsters. Number of speeches interrupted by err and or mmm. cheers Penny

I agree about the word 'kids'. It is often said on the TV news instead of 'children'.

I can't stand hearing 'like' scattered in conversation. It is unnecessary and daft. I was 'like' standing there and they went 'like' wot you want? 'like' company?

Many things annoy me that people say but I am no angel and I expect I too come out with things that annoy others.

I think the one that REALLY annoys me is the text messaging such a B4 instead of before and CU instead of see you plus many more make do words that is considered trendy.
Another is the continual F word that has taken over in many programmes. I dont know if anyone else watched the film yesterday called Four Weddings And A Funeral. I had never seen it before so I put it on BUT I was absolutely disgusted because the first three words uttered was the F word. I did not bother watching any more it went straight off. I can swear if I am triggered but that sort of thing is uncalled for.
Like Penny I also dont like children to be referred to as kids.Nanny goats have kids

I could of
I should of.
Excape. Prostrate problem. revelant

All those times Facebook staff do such captions as :baby cow' '/ pregnant horse / and they will choose to put 'baby goat' because the correct word 'kid' is being wrongly used in captions re children. I have sent moans to Facebook about it.

To say "See you later" means I'll see you at a later time or date" It could be 1 hour,or 1 day or next month or even next year.
I also hate the use of "like" and "d'you know what I mean"

We have "kids" all six of us are guilty of that. It used to be the big kids and the little kids but now the original little kids are teens so we have another layer.
It's always said with a great deal of affection. Whatever they're called they're loved.
