With not feeling up to much I was feeling very annoyed with myself because I just could not concentrate on the flipping TV and breathless if I got up to do too much.
Anyway this afternoon I wanted something out of the wardrobe and I think Cliff must be around because I have been to that wardrobe many times but never seen the box that was taped up to stop it flying open.
Curiosity got the better of me and I took it into the lounge and started going through it. I was fascinated to find that it was all Cliff's dad's licences and bills and God alone knows what else that goes way back to 1926 when he owned buses.
Its been a lovely delve back into the past but I am still extremely puzzled why it is I could not find any reference to the bus he had that had a piano at the back of the driver.
I have the plan for it but no photos or reading matter but I DO know he owned it. I even have a letter written by a gentleman who used to drive it that was sent to the newspaper. A mystery.

Its passed a lovely couple of hours away this afternoon and I could not resist scanning in one of the licences to show you. Look at the date on it.

I know the feeling Maisie! I've just found a small box of letters that my mum wrote to dad during the war and before it. Oh my- she really did love him! And vice versa. They both must have kept letters. One of them from mum doesn't yet know if I am a girl or a boy! :-)

It was a lovely couple of hours just browsing through old papers.
My mother knew what she was doing during the war when she found a few old documents that had been bomb damaged but just about readable. They went everywhere with her after that and now I have them.Some things have already been passed on to my family.

Michael show them to the family and I am certain sure they wont want to part with them.
By the way! Couples DID not know what sex they were having way back then.
That was found out by modern science that took over well after the war.
I did not know what sex my child would be in 1950 until he was born.

Its a pity we cant have a thread showing a photo of things that are precious to us and the story with it.They dont have to be expensive jewels just to be well treasured.

It would be lovely to see everyone's prized posssesion and the tale behind it.
As I said it does not have to be anything expensive. It could be an old tattered teddy bear but its the love that has been showered on it and the tale where it originated from that would be most interesting as well as seeing the treasure.

Eight pounds and five shillings to tax a small bus for a year! That was probably a month's pay for the average worker. As a comparison, the current annual rate for a bus with up to 17 seats is £165 which, allowing for inflation must, in real terms, be less expensive.

I dont know if anyone else is interested in that sort of thing from the past but even the stamps on some of the envelopes have the old King George V on them.

I think stamps used to be much more visually appealing than they are now. The 1950s designs for QE2 stamps were lovely, with the queen's face in an oval or circle of floral symbols. Then there were the special editions. I especially loved the wildflower ones from (I think) the early 1960s.

Rarely see ruddy stamps now with all the e-mailing that takes place and as you say those in the past were more appealing.
