I am so sorry to hear about Victors Mate, I remember him well from here and also Saga, he used to talk of his wife with such affection. If you are in touch closely with him Vannin please send him a big hug from me, thanks for telling us.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I was only wondering recently where Victor's Mate had got to. So many names we rarely see here these days  .
Viv, please pass good wishes on to VM from me and tell him I'll raise a glass of Aldi wine to him later.

Did VM live in a lovely spot by a water mill or am I confusing him with someone else?

No you are not confusing him with someone. He does live in a converted water mill by the river and loves to sit on the bank with a book and glass of red wine.

I have cancer at the top of my stomach just below the esophagus

I came out of hospital on the 10th May after a stay of just over a week.
There are, apparently 3 treatments to be considered.

1. Chemotherapy which at my age would create more problems than it solved
2 Surgery and this is one of the major operations which, again at my age, I would be unlikely to survive
3 Managing the condition which seems to involve putting in a stent if/when swallowing becomes difficult sometimes in conjunction with radiotherapy to shrink the tumour.

Meantime I am trying to keep my weight as high as I can y eating all the "wrong" foods. Also trying to increase my red cell blood count and iron levels.

Thank goodness for the river views from my windows

Once again, VM, you and your daughters are facing a very trying and testing time when you need all your resources of courage and fortitude - so may I wish you all an abundance of positivity and determination over the months to come and, more than that, every success with the radiation therapy.

VERY, VERY GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL

Hi, VM, in November my friend was taken into hospital after a miss- diagnosis of the same illness, when it eventually came to light what had happened it was either Radiotherapy or nothing and she chose the Radiotherapy which she thought was the best option. She is at the moment spending a while in a care home waiting to be fit enough to return to her home, it has been quite a journey because of a chest infection but is much improved now, her age 78yrs. I wish you well my friend xxx
