Burned my toast.

No problem there, of course, just made a fresh bit, but I burnt it quite badly and the house was blue with smoke.

The worrying bit is that neither my smoke alarm or carbon monoxide alarm went off, despite regular testing.

It's a Kiddie one so it's good quality.

Not bothered about going out, more worried about sleeping!

Ring the fire service laurie. They do free checks on these things.

As "vulnerable person" my fire plan is registered with them and they come every year to "check me out" and to fit a new alarm anyway.

While the alarm is still OK on the press button test, I have some smoke matches which I will use for a "real time " test today.

Have you tried Hoovering it (other vacuum cleaners are available)? Sometimes, especially in a kitchen, the sensors collect grease and dust and stop working properly although the device beeps when you press the button. The solution is to gently insert the cleaner nozzle and remove the gunk.
