Time Out

Postby Penny » Wed Jul 18, 2018 5:05 pm

Just had an afternoon by the nearest canal. So peaceful. Watching people come along to the lake beside,to feed the ducks. One enormous heron was resting on a bush watching the small ducks below. Dozens of Canadian Geese coming and going. Lots of little birds about too. several boats came in for overnight mooring.. Could you live on a Barge. I know I couldn't but OH says he could if he were younger. cheers Penny :grouphug:

I'm claustrophobic So I definitely couldn't live in uh a confined space. Couldn't even contemplate hiring one for a week on the water.

However, like you, I enjoy sitting in a quiet spot occasionally and watching other folk enjoying their boats and barges.

Once did a day trip on the Grand Union on a traditional horse drawn barge, with refreshment stops.

Life in the slow lane!

Years ago we used to hire boats on the River Thames for a weeks holiday, plus the Norfolk broads and the grand canal, wouldnt do it now thought as have probs getting on/off the boats, but when we vist my son who lives in Abingdon its lovely going to watch the boats going through the locks.
A friend of ours retired from her job and brought a barge and live on it in France and are really enjoying it.I prefer my caravan, :sunglasses:
