My next door nieghbours have been feeding birds with seed in there garden for a long while(no problem with that) but for the last week or two we have seen lots of pigeons, and they have taken to sitting on our summer house roof and our flat roof and you can imagine the mess its creating,so today we have put up a long rod with a flying fish and hopes it will keep them away from our property, they sit looking at the food theres at least 20 of them. :tantrum2:

Can sympathise. The do make a mess. We have them daily for food but only about 4 along with all the other birds. Funny they are the only ones who insist om waiting roof-wise. cheers Penny

David Attenborough said that pigeons carry more diseases than rats. I love most birds but hate pigeons - they are filthy and spoil everything they get close to.

Twin, you need a stuffed hawk or owl attached to the summer house roof or perched on your house guttering where it overlooks the summer house. The pigeons will think it's real and give it a very wide berth!
They do this at Morgan Cars. Completed cars ready for delivery are kept in a large open-fronted building and they had terrible problems with pigeons doing what pigeons do all over that lovely new paint, so they put up an owl and the cars remain pristine.

I'm glad to hear that it worked for the motor company.. However, our opposite neighbour bought a good owl replica and stood it at the back of his large porch roof. It moved its head from time to time and that only worked for a short while. The pigeons and the magpies avoided it at first but they don't bother about it anymore.

And Stephen Fry on QI said this is an old wives tale and pigeons carry no more diseases than any other birds.

I think I might take Atteborough's word over Fry!

I remember when I was in health and safety any pest controllers I called in would wear goggles, masks and gloves.

It they are woodpigeons feed them on corn moistened

with alcohol.

When they fall over wring their necks and get them in the oven. They make a good supper dish.

My mother-in-law always used to give us a couple for the journey home after a visit.
