Every Tuesday, when we pop out for lunch we bring back a bag of chips for the birds. Every Weds, mornibg there are dozens waiting in the garden when we get up. All waiting for chips. Now, other days we have time to cut up their food and one of us takes it out and call the birds, Down they come and eat up. How come they know when it is Wednesday with their favourite food??? and we don't have to call them.?? cheers Penny

It does make you wonder how the birds know what day it is.Penny.

They've probably learned that you go out together at more or less the same time of day and that, give or take the odd half hour, you are probably away for roughly the same length of time on these occasions. And, from experience, they've understood that these events mean there will be goodies the following morning.

Birds do have a sense of time, con controlled by daylight which is always predictable.

If the birds get chips today, particularly human dependent birds, it won't take them long to realise that when sunrise is twenty minutes earlier, or later (or whatever the figure is, I just grabbed that one!) they will get chips again.

That does, after all, control their sex life!

Thank you Penny, I'm in fine fettle.

After several false starts I finally got a new freezer! A week later the microwave had a hiccough. Been alright since, but I've lined up a replacement!

Total paradox this morning. Back to lying on the bed, windows wide fan going, watching a howling blizzard outside!

just turned off the slow cooker which has had a lamb stew in it since 1000. Best end of neck so it should be pretty prime!
