Paypal -- E.bay

Postby Penny » Tue Aug 20, 2019 11:03 am

Have you ever used Paypal?, A friend of ours has just sold a camera for £500.00 plus and has been charged almost £90.00, I think that is a bit much, what does anyone else think.

cheers Penny

Don't understand Penny, what was the £90 for, I have a Paypal account linked to a bank account which I only ever have a small amount in, but I do buy stuff on-line and pay with my Paypal account and am never charged any extra.

As far as I know widget, he put the camera for sale, think he waited 14 days whilst offers were made, then when final offer was accepted he had to pay a fee of almost £90. and then told to post parcel. On confirmation that parcel had been received by buyer a cheque would be put into his bank. He took the parcel to the P>O> and I haven.t heard any more yet. Still seems a lot to me. cheers Penny

Haven't heard any more yet. Understood Paypal is part of EBay except I think there must be some sort of selling by offer over so many days. Never done anything like it myself so will have to look it up. cheersPenny

I use PayPal all the time, and invariably choose it if there is an option.

Only ever had one problem, at least ten years ago when I noticed a small donation to charity, a favourite method a scammers to "test the water".

Noticed it at 10.10 in the evening, and phoned straight away.

The money was back in my bank account before 10.30. I have never been charged so much as a penny in fees, commission, "administration costs" by PP.

On the contrary I never use ebay unless there is no option. Been caught by charlatans too many time.

When you sell on ebay you pay a fee for listing and once its sold they charge you a fee on paypal for selling the item, and the higher the sold price the more they take, which is unfair but thats how they make money.I no longer buy or sell on ebay anymore.

Exactly what happened, Rwin. Eventually all the money was in his bank but he could not get it transferred to his account. Eventually spoke to an American lady and she went thro' everything with him . Worked out, putting on paper there were 3 circles and he had to add more circles to cover the amount. So, that was it. As I said no way would I use either, it just seemed so strange when he told me about it. cheers Penny

Hope you are keeping well Laurie, take care.

Once the person buys the item, the money goes straight into the paypal account and then you can transfer it to your chosen bank and takes no more than 2 hours,i havent had any problems in the past.

I always like to sell things on Gumtree, the only thing which might be against it, is you sell from home, so folk come to you and buy, but you don't give your address till you feel sure, they come to your house, if they want it they give you cash take it, and most times it can be done on the doorstep or in the garage.
I, so far, have never had any trouble and sold everything I have put on there.
OK, not a problem for most priced stuff, perhaps a £500 camera might be a problem.

Think your right about Ebay, I use to sell and buy a lot on there, but all the bother of packing it up, posting, far better on Gumtree, but as I said be careful don't let strangers into your house, also Facebook local buy and sell is good.
