Oddies

Postby Penny » Fri Aug 23, 2019 12:45 pm

Not sure what they call them but as my clock starts to strike the hour, I start singing,,,,,,,,,, I Am Big Ben, I Stand In Town, If You Touch Me I'll Knock You Down. I can remember doing this since I was a little one. Anyone else got an old habit.

cheers Penny :dunno:

On seeing a White horse "White horse, White horse, bring me Good luck, spit three times and that's enough".

Brilliant, not heard that one. Might be lucky tomorrow as we have horses pass by every afternoon. cheers Penny.

Huh?

Never heard of these practices but I know someone who always chants a rhyme when she sees magpies. I asked why and she doesn't know! Then there's that thing about shouting "rabbits" on the first day of the month. My grandmother would do that but never explained it.
I suppose there must be some ancient superstitious/religious belief attached to these things but, from my perspective, it all looks a bit barmy.

quite agree Andere., I remember some old lady had been in hospital and on her return she saw a single Magpie. She would not enter the house until she stood and said.out loud. ...... Hello Mrs Magpie, How are you today. ..... I have been saying that to one Magpie ever since. cheers Penny.

Magpies - one for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy!

Can't remember the rest, but there are more!

Five for silver six for gold, seven a secret not to be told.

Think this is correct. cheers Penny
