Matariki- the Maori start of the year. What you may know as the rising of the Pleiades and the Japanese call Subaru.
Tends to be a cheerful time not only to Maori but the rest of us. Kite flying is a popular pastime. Looking forward to not waking up in the dark and long summer evenings.

Hi Ciderman, that is very interesting information, when you say soon----when? It is Fathers Day here today as well you know. :) Years ago sometime in the late 50's or so, I was lucky enough to have a meeting with a Maori who was in a camp for foreigners near where I lived, they were here to learn English but they were also working on nearby farms to help out too. He was lovely and taught us much more than he learned from us, he was very proud of his country and rightly so. The name Subaru is a little familiar to me because my husband and I used to play Kendo for a while. Happy Fathers Day xxxx
