Yor thoughts?

A woman with ISIS links has been arrested by Turkish authorities at the Syrian border together with her two young children. She had duel passports as she was born in NZ but had lived in Australia since the age of 6. She has no family connections in NZ only in Australia. The Aussie PM has cancelled her citizenship and passport leaving her only recourse to try to return to NZ. This seems unkind to the two young children who had no say in where they were born, but have extended family in Australia. Jacinda is not pleased!

Morally, she has to be Australia's responsibility - in the same way Shamima Begum is a British responsibility. Like it or not, these unsavoury people are a product of their environment and the governments concerned must accept their liabilities.

This woman may have been born in NZ but she was raised in Australia and that is, presumably, where her pro-ISIS views were acquired and developed so Scott Morrison & Co cannot be allowed to wash their hands of the matter.

Incidentally, I am curious as to how she was able to keep her NZ citizenship as I understood Australia to be one of the countries which insists upon revocation of your previous nationality if you wish to become a citizen of Australia.

Presumably the children's citizenship has not been withdrawn so they can male their own choices once they are old enough. They should be given a loving environment until then.

So far as dual nationality is concerned it seems a brutal system of whichever country decides to act First.

Time there was an international convention on the relinquishing of one nationality when you gain another.
