Having fun

Had a laugh this morning. In the rear garden a magpie kept chasing a squirrel . The squirrel kept running up and down the apple tree and the magpie would hover about until the squirrel came down and ran round and round the bottom of the tree. I know magpies eat baby chicks and eggs etc, but what could it have wanted from the squirrel. This is the third time this week, I hope someone can tell me what is going on. Is it for fun or a more serious finish.

cheers Penny

People also ask
Why would a magpie attack a squirrel?
Magpie behaviour can often be explained by a desire to drive off a competitor for food, as in the case of the squirrel, or to attack a weakened animal seen as potential prey, as with the hedgehog. However, some of their attacks sometimes seem to arise from sheer devilment.

Something from google Penny.

Thanks maggieh. You must be on the ball. The squirrel pops here several times a day to finish off nuts and seeds which I put out for the birds, so it sounds as though the magpie is trying to get them before the squirrel Mant thanks for reply. cheers Penny.
