Is one able to use very old coins such as King Edward 1918 and similar. cheers

Some of them might be worth a lot more than were once.
Civilisation is a veneer, easily soluble in alcohol.

Put it in Google Penny to see if they are still legal tender, but I doubt it now.
Michael is right, it would be worth looking at old coinage to see if the coin is collectable.
