They are aromatic and slightly acidic ( as are apples) the tree is so productive, more so than any fruit tree I know of, that I am picking them off the lawn under the tree every morning and this goes on for about a month. Most people use a teaspoon as in the photo:-
But some eat them with the skin on , like my grandchildren :-).
Unfortunately they do not travel well, like Kiwifruit do, so they are not exported. The plant originated in South America and were probably brought to NZ by the early Polynesian sailors 5 or 6 hundred years ago.
Civilisation is a veneer, easily soluble in alcohol.
