Could be, Penny, someone else mentioned the same thing on another forum I visit. I'm on facebook, but in my opinion it doesn't replace forums, and doesn't seem to have much depth to it, lots of silly applications some of which seem a bit childish to me but then I'm perhaps a bit too old for facebook!

No can't be. As sweetpea says, facebook locks depth... and all those silly applications. I barely spend 10 mins a day on face book.

Seems a shame the people are posting less on forums. If it's not the various Face Bookeries and Twitteries, what is it?

I have to admit to skimming through the forums to get onto Facebook to play scrabble. I usually have about 15 games running and admit that I am total addict

However, I think we often see fewer posts in the summer months.....so as it's September now perhaps things will buck up.

I have to agree with Mazzy.

Summer (such as it is) is a time spent by many doing other things whereas cold winter days are often best spent by a hot computer.

I have also been quite busy otherwise so am unwilling to start anything just in case I`m called away and cant follow up on anything posted.

I still look in several times a day whatever.

As to Facebook it`s no contest, I only joined it to keep an eye on the rellies down under and I often wonder why I bothered.

I do not think it re-places this forum, for a start it is bliddy
confusing. It is also less personal, think we are in a novelty
situation.
I always come here for a bit of a nose, rather than Facebook :hide:

No comparison between a Forum and Facebook. I think it is a combination of summer and the need for a break at times.

Thanks folk, that is a relief. I guess you are all right about the summer months. I see today that a council has blocked facebook because its office workers were spending up to 572 hours a month on Facebook. Now we know a little more of how our money is wasted. cheers Penny.

But the Silver Surfers were 'doing it first!! We were the biggest numbers in online 'social networking' before Facebook came along. I mean, the day Saga Zone first publicised itself (30/10/2007) 30,000 senior applicants joined in 36 hours ............the software was not prepared for the rush and broke down, but was soon fixed, up and running. Many of those applicants were already on forums, as we are.

I can't see any worthy comparison between them and us. Us oldies are the fore-runners, I do agree though we seem a bit thin on the ground at the moment but would be surprised if the reason was F/B, Twitter etc.

I spend a bit of time on Facebook doing Scrabble etc and keeping up with the gossip between my family and friends.
