I always thought to divide meant lessen. That 0.5 meant a half. Yet to divide 150 by .5 I end up with twice the amount. Keep trying with various sums but just the same, How come, can anyone explain to this dumbhead. cheers Penny :tantrum2:

By the same token, if you multiply a figure by another you expect the answer to be greater.

It is greater when you are multiplying by a whole number but when you are multiplying by a fraction the result will be a whole number and therefore the answer is going to be a smaller number.

50 x 0.5 = 25 - i.e. 50 halves makes 25 (wholes)

so - 25/0.5 = 50 - i.e. 25(whole number) becomes 50 (halves)

Hope this helps, Penny!
