Mini Tornado

Postby Monika » Tue Nov 24, 2009 12:39 am

Today, at lunchtime, the sky to the north of us went really black and some minutes later we had the most exceptionally fierce rain and wind I have ever seen.

Later, this evening, the local TV station said that in Littleover, Derbyshire there had been a mini-tornado and showed pictures of a street with roof tiles thrown about and one particular house where the brick garage had been flattened and was just a pile of bricks.

I don't know where caroljoyce lives in Derbyshire but, if you're reading this CJ I hope you were not troubled by it.

Just goes to show how much we are already being affected by global warming. Who ever heard of a tornado (however small) in any of three countries in Britain.

They are not uncommon, apparently, usually too small to be noticed. Same with earth tremors.

I discovered that many years ago, when the roof of the local supermarket was blown clear off, by a sudden tornado. The middle of a very busy shopping afternoon and nobody was hurt, just amazing.
