I researched this on the internet and the article I found indicates that speedometers were in existance before that date.

Also I can find no references to 'Thorpe and Salter'.

The first Automotive speedometer was produced by Thorpe and Salter in London in 1902. Google will give you this info. 0.35mph. Followed by Baldwin Chain & Mfg. Co. in 1906 who offered the Monitor Recorder. cheers Penny
