Our friends insurance was a bit dearer than ours VM. They booked with Saga insurance, that's a well enough known name... but they still got the same answer.... Not covered.

They call it an act of God!

Just trying to help. I worked as an accountant for an insurance company for 5 years, but there you go. The fact that the insurance policies you both chose had the same exclusion does seem to make my point.

Bishopsgate used to offer one of the most comprehensive policies they are now part of the Fortis group. This is a quote from their Policy documentation
"Missed departure – extra travel and
accommodation expenses
Please send confirmation of the delay from
the carrier or tour operator. You must also
send receipts or bills for your expenses.

For car breakdown or accident claims, send the
repairer's report or police accident report
and details of how you got to the port or
airport.

Thank you so much VM. In future if we have any long distance to travel I shall certainly be more choosy about my insurance... in fact I will insist it has this inclusion.

I am going to make a note of what you've said and put it in my travel folder so that I never forget.

No probs Carol. We came across the need for this inclusion a lot due to people travelling in their own cars to Gatwick and Heath Row.
Due to the fact that the M25 and its many problems with traffic holdups featured strongly on people from this region.

When I emailed Fred Olsen they were rather sarcastic in their reply, saying we should have allowed more time for this probability etc. I explained that we allowed 10 hrs for a 4 hr journey, but still they blamed us for not taking enought precautions. They don't have a very good customer relations dept.

I got this from them this morning
I know where they can stuff their Christmas greetings!!

I'm ready to go again. This time to St Ives in Cornwall for some new years celebrations.
I hope we make it this time.

I've been taking some day nurse capsules for my cold and I must say, I feel a bit better.

Happy New year to you all... See you when I get back.
