A Sad Day today ...........................

because I am waiting to be picked up to go to my dear sister-in-law's funeral. She suffered from breast cancer for two years which then went to her lungs. She had NEVER smoked in her life and it was awful to see her fighting for breath through this rotten disease.
We were more like sisters than in-laws and we got on well for the 56 years that we knew each other.
She will be sadly missed.

So so sad Maisie. A dreadful illness.
My condolences to all who knew and loved her.
Dorries husband also died of it at the age of 54. It was awful watching such a lovely happy go lucky brother in law suffer so much.

Many thanks everyone for the lovely messages.
It was a lovely service and the church looked so inviting and cheerful.
They have done wonders inside with this old church

It was warm and inviting without taking away the character of the lovely old building.

On the back of the service booklet was this poem written by her 18 year old granddaughter.
I was so touched by it I asked her if I could let others read it.
Here it is.

What a lovely poem from her grandaughter.

My mother died from this disease when she was just 50 and my father from it when he was 58, neither of them smoked for more than twenty years before they got it.
Avoid the evil, and it will avoid thee.

A very sad end to the year for you Maisie, but now she is at peace and out of pain.
It's a terrible disease.
