call for the dead appeared in 1961 I think and the spy who came in from the cold in 1963.

Re number 4. George Smiley appeared in two novels before The Spy Who Came In From The Cold (1963). They were Call For The Dead (1961) and A Murder Of Quality (1962).

Very confusing this one. He first appeared in Call for the Dead. plus more, but retired from the circus and then came back, in the novel that shot Le carr to fame, in The Spy who came in from the cold. So it's a case of 'take your pick' Every one is correct. cheers Penny.

Should have read the book too, I suppose. It also featured a romance between the two main characters, but there.............books and their subsequent movies. The words 'Based On'.
