Children's TV

Postby Monika » Thu Apr 08, 2010 7:45 pm

I watched Countdown this afternoon and, after it had finished, I turned to BBC2 to find racing on.

So - I switched to BBC1 and found it was children's TV.

There was a puppet rat talking about history and telling children that the Romans used to go to the toilet together and there, on the screen, they showed long wooden benches with holes cut out and actors sitting talking to each other whilst emptying their bowels.

I have never heard so much farting in all my life; they could have been composing a new tune on assorted whooppee cushions.

I know that TV is not up to the same standard as in Lord Reith's day but, for goodness sake, is this the best they can come up with (or dumb down to) in the name of educating today's young! :tantrum2: :tantrum2:

I was watching that too Monika, waiting for them to make a mistake!!! I was pretty disgusted too - what rot they put on for kids.

Children's TV has some poor content and it is noted too by parents. CEEBEEBIES is renowned for it!

I tell our son and DIL yto monitor what the GC watch on TV. I hope they listen and I think they do up to a point.

Did you know there is a new thing out that can edit and warn parents about unsuitable content on a DVD? Its called ClearPlay. I think this is right and will check. About time this was taken on board. Our son and DIL have to monitor many DVD's that look ok for children. Some DVDs are under classified and have swearing and scenes of graphic violence not to metion sexual activity.

Good news for responsible parents! :sunglasses:
